KREMMLING, COLORADO
Elev. 7364      Pop. 1600

History: In 1884, merchant Rudolph Kremmling established a general store on a wagon route serving Middle Park ranchers from what is now Summit County. In 1904, the town of Kremmling was incorporated and, in 1906, the Moffat Railroad arrived. Today, Kremmling has maintained its identity as a ranching community and haven for sportsmen and outdoor recreation enthusiasts.

What to Do: Outdoor recreation is king in Kremmling! The town is bounded by three national forest areas – Arapaho, Routt and White River – so the choices are many: uncrowded cross country skiing and snowshoe trails, year around fly-fishing on the nearby “Gold Medal” waters of the Colorado River, hunting elk or deer on the open range, or ice fishing on Wolford Mountain, Green Mountain and Williams Fork Reservoirs. During the summer enjoy OHV/ATV trails, hiking, mountain biking and, of course, horseback riding.

Lodging: Visitors using Kremmling as a base for their backcountry adventures can choose from the areas vintage hotels, private cabins, motels, RV parks, campgrounds and dude ranches.

Events: Most of Kremmling’s special events celebrate the town’s western heritage or outdoor recreational opportunities. The 2006 event schedule includes:

February 4-5
Kremmling Snowmobile Drag Racing & Radar Runs on Wolford Reservoir – bring your mountain or trail sled for a day of fast times.

February 18 9th Annual Wolford Mountain Reservoir Ice Fishing Contest

June 16-18
The Kremmling Days Celebration-featuring a parade, live music, 5K/10K run, kids’ games, barbeque, beer garden, street performers, craft vendors, Sunday Mud Bog and the famous Cliff Golf Tournament.

September 9 18th Annual Roadkill Trail Marathon, 10K & 5K

Fun Fact:

Grand County is a place where the county fair is still a social event--a place where rodeo queens compete, small kids show big hogs, and the cookie contest is fiercely competitive. Kremmling will host the 2006 county fair on September 13-17.

The novel “Mysterious Rider” by western author Zane Grey is set near Kremmling, inspired by the writer’s stay in the town during the early 20th century.

Grand County, Colorado is the perfect year-round destination with activities ranging from a family ski adventure to a real Western trail ride. For additional information on Grand County and an online Trip Planner check out www.grand-county.com or call 800-729-5821.
