Earth Day celebration in Granby

May 26th, 2010

Granby had a great festival last weekend in the town park, with live music, ice cream, garden demos, and lots of booths with info on “greening” up everything from the home to the yard to the workplace.  We even got to look over a wood-chip powered car!

Ice is off the lakes!

May 15th, 2010

Saw boats on Lake Granby this morning and all the ice is off of Shadow Mtn. and Grand Lake.  Summer is on it’s way!

Cozens Ranch Museum Open

May 2nd, 2010

There was a ribbon cutting and opening celebration on Saturday.  After being closed for a year, the Cozens Ranch Museum (in Fraser, right across from the new Rec Center) is open again!  It is the original homestead of Billy & Mary Cozens, the first white settlers in the valley, and has wonderful displays of the hard and wonderful life the family lived in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

Cabin Fever Follies

April 26th, 2010

This was the 20th anniversary of the annual “Cabin Fever Follies”, a Grand Lake tradition of getting out all the local talent for general amusement and entertainment.  This year had some real stand-outs….5th grader Grace Little with a big voice did a beautiful version of “Part of My World”, 18-year-old Zack Thorp blew everyone away with his bluesy guitar solo of “Crossroads”, and High School Junior Mason Jackson created a small band via on-stage recording with his trombone.  The adults got into the spirt of things also with a wide range of talent, from the always popular belly dancers to the Never Summer womens quartet and the Grand Finale of the Mountain Man Ballet….don’t ask, you have to see it to believe it!   A very fun evening was had by all at this muddy time of the season!!!

Spring Splash at Winter Park

April 20th, 2010

Sunday was the perfect Spring Splash day…..warm but not to warm, sunny but not enough to fry  exposed skin (which is good as alot of people were wearing shorts and t-shirts!).  The Splash competition was hugely entertaining as we watched from the West Portal deck while having lunch.  And oh yeah, the skiing was great on about 65 inches of soft but not too slushy snow.  Now looking forward to NEXT season!

Late season skiing at Snow Mountain Ranch

April 8th, 2010

Went skiing at lunchtime today at Snow Mountain Ranch and the snow was great!  The Blue Ridge trail has been beautifully groomed and there was not a cloud in the sky.  Temps got up to about 40 degrees but no wind…..perfect!  Trails will be open until Sunday, April 11th so get out and enjoy…..

Snow is amazing in late March!

March 30th, 2010

Went skiing at Mary Jane on Sunday and could not believe how light and powdery the snow still is.  Started out at 9am and was surprised to find the snow was not “bullet-proof” the way it can get sometimes in the spring.  The sun shone all day but the temperatures stayed cool enough to keep the snow perfect.  We had lunch on the deck at the Club Car and played all afternoon on the slopes.  Could not be more amazing….

Snowshoeing Adams Falls

March 8th, 2010

Went on the snowshoe trail to Adams Falls and above.  This is one the easiest access points in Rocky Mountain National Park.  Temps where in the high 40s so we didn’t even wear coats and shed our gloves.  The Falls are not running yet but you can hear the water gurgling underneath the ice and snow.  Spectacular views of Mt. Baldy made for some great pictures!

Skiing at the Grand Lake Nordic Center

March 6th, 2010

Went cross country skiing at the Grand Lake Nordic Center….which is the golf course in the summer.  They have a comfy clubhouse with hot soup and snacks.  The trails were groomed perfectly and the views were spectacular!  We had the dog with us so spent all our time on miles of dog loops. There’s a cute little tubing hill for the kids, too.

Powder day!!!

February 27th, 2010

Spent Friday at Winter Park and Mary Jane and it was an amazing powder day!!!  The snow report said there was 6 inches of new snow but we think there was at least 10 inches at the Swedes Ridge area.  The sun came out mid-day and it was one of those magical, perfect ski days!
